Public Safety and Livability Committee

The purpose of the Public Safety and Livability Committee is to promote involvement of the NWDA board, committees, and general membership in matters of public safety and livability throughout the neighborhood. The NWDA is in the process of creating a formal Committee work plan, which will identify and prioritize public safety issues and identify recommended actions to help reduce crime and improve safety in the neighborhood.

If you have NON-EMERGENCY questions or comments regarding crime or public safety issues in the Northwest District, please contact:

Second Saturday Clean-Ups

Join your neighbors and local businesses this Saturday from 9 to 10 AM to help pick up litter in the Northwest District. Saturday, August 14, marks the kick-off of Second Saturday South, an expansion of the popular monthly clean-up that meets at Food Front. In addition to Food Front, volunteers can also meet at Umpqua Bank on NW 23rd.

The goal of this event is to get to know your neighbors and to make the Northwest District neighborhood a nicer placer to live, work, visit, and shop. Coffee and pastries will be provided by Food Front and Umpqua Bank. Clean-up supplies are provided by SOLV (www.solv.org). Dumpster space is provided by Food Front and Trader Joe’s.

Graffiti Removal – Sat. May 8

Please join NWDA, local businesses, residents, and elected officials as well as representatives from ‘Goodbye Graffiti’ and ‘Youth Employment Instititute’ on Saturday, May 8th, for a morning of graffiti removal in Northwest Portland. This great initiative is organized by the Office of Neighborhood Involvement as part of its Graffiti Abatement Program.

Volunteers should meet in the Trader Joe’s parking lot on NW Glisan at 9:00 am. Graffiti removal and re-painting efforts are expected to last until noon (or so) but join us for a much or as little as you can. All necessary equipment and supplies will be provided. We use a soy bean derivative to remove graffiti and recycled paint from Metro to paint over graffiti.

Dress for a mess, which isn’t a bad as you might expect.
