Graffiti and Litter

Two neighborhood cleanups (litter pickup and graffiti removal) are organized each month. One is on the 2nd Saturday of the month, 9-10:30am, starting at Food Front, 2375 NW Thurman. The other is on the 3rd Saturday of the month, 9-10:30am, starting at Elephants Deli, 115 NW 22nd. Eveyone is welcome.

Neighborhood Spring Clean-Up!

Join Friendly Streets and the Northwest District Association (NWDA) and help cleanup up the neighborhood just in time for spring. Volunteers are needed to help pick up litter, remove graffiti and collect abandoned grocery carts throughout the Northwest neighborhoods.  The cleanup will be held on Saturday, April 26 from 9-11am. It will begin at the Northwest Community Garden on NW 16th between Johnson and Kearney. Meet there for light snacks, instructions, maps, and all necessary supplies. The cleanup will end at the Lucky Labrador Brewery, 1945 NW Quimby Street for free pizza and raffle prizes.

Please dress for the weather. The event will be held rain or shine and is open to all ages.

Please Lend a Hand at Our –  7th Annual Neighborhood-Business Area Collaborative Graffiti Cleanup

The City of Portland Graffiti Abatement Program along with the Northwest District Association and the Goose Hollow Foothills League will sponsor a graffiti removal day. We’d love your help!

This cleanup will be Saturday, September 22 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. We will meet at the top level of the Fred Meyer parking garage located at 100 NW 20th Place. This cleanup will be a combined effort with City-contracted graffiti removal crews and neighborhood volunteers.

The contractor-crews will focus on painting and power-washing private properties. Volunteers will remove graffiti from in the public right-of-way. Supplies will be provided by the Graffiti Abatement Program. No experience or RSVP required. For more information visit

Mural Restored

The mural looks wonderful, thank you to our neighbor for fixing this mural.

I was documenting all the outdoor murals in the NWDA boundaries for NWDA. We learned in this process that only one new mural has gone through the city process created three years ago-this mural pre-dated the current rules.

On Thursday, June 28, BridgeTown Ministries arranged for over 60 enthusiastic, young adults to remove graffiti and pick up litter throughout our neighborhood. We would to thank all the folks who cleaned and the wonderful leadership at BridgeTown Ministries for making our neighborhood a better place. We would also like to thank Fred Meyer for hosting the event and to the City of Portland Graffiti Abatement Program for providing supplies.

This cleanup will be held the 3rd Saturday of every month from 9am-10:30am. The first cleanup is Saturday, November 19, 9am-10:30am. We will meet at Elephants Deli at 115 NW 22nd, rain or shine.

Please join us to pick up litter, remove graffiti, get to know your neighbors and make the neighborhood a bit cleaner!

4 Chances to Help Remove Neighborhood Graffiti

Everyone is welcome to join these efforts to remove the graffiti and stickers pestering our neighborhood. Cleanups will occur rain or shine.

1. Friday, July 22, 11am-3pm. `Pay to Park’ parking lot located on the north side of NW Glisan St. between NW 23rd and NW 24th. This cleanup will focus on NW 23rd St. Central City Concern Volunteer Corps will assist.

2. Saturday July 23, 10am-noon. Couch Park (NW Glisan St. at 18th), near the playground. This cleanup will focus on the area around Couch Park and NW 21st.

3. Tuesday, July 26, 10am-2pm. Stadium Fred Meyer, 100 Northwest 20th Place, upper level of parking garage. This cleanup will focus on Burnside and streets south of Burnside. Bridgetown Ministries will assist.

4. Friday, August 5, 12:30pm-3pm. Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. 147 NW 19th. This cleanup will focus on the area around Trinity. Trinity SPARKS! Summer Service in the City camp will assist.
