We welcome your ideas. Let us know your priority Northwest District safety concerns and your ideas for improving how we get around in our community!

Hi –
I am the NWDA Transportation Committee Co-Chair and also active with the Willamette Pedestrian Coalition (WPC). This Steel Bridge connection often comes up, including in a recent survey conducted by the WPC and noted in their “Getting Around on Foot” report.
I understand that this is on the City’s radar, though I don’t know the current status. It is a tricky location with high auto speeds and limited lines of sight. I have been guilty of J-walking at this location, but do so carefully!
We can add this to our list, event though it is not actually within the NW District. As you state, it is a logical walk and bike connection from the NW to the esplanade.

Hello NWDA..!
Once a long time resident of the ‘hood I now live on SE Belmont. One very glaring problem at least from a biking perspective is that there still is no obvious direct route to the Northwest once one comes off of the steel bridge path. It is to say the least a bit sloppy if not too obvious. When coming back across the river one is forced to travel down Everett..then do a creative crossing over Naito Pkwy which crosses two divided lanes of traffic with poor sightlines. I would be great if there were better facilitated crossings and a more direct route for west bound riding that heading north to come up Northrup…there is no obvious suggestion or direction to get onto Johnson.
Otherwise you guys are just plain spoiled with the many modes available to you and the slower traffic.. Just try crossing SE Belmont during the afternoon commute to reach the bike lane!
Keep on biking…
