Get Involved: Join the Northwest District Association Graffiti Task Force

Graffiti is an epidemic problem in Portland’s northwest neighborhoods. From the large spray painted ‘tags’ on NW 23rd to the stickers attached to sign poles on residential streets, no block has been spared. The Safety and Livability Committee of the Northwest District Association (NWDA) is forming a group to conquer the problem.  Now is the time to get involved.

According to Tanya March, Co-Chair of the Safety and Livability Committee, “It’s sad to see all this graffiti in our neighborhood. It’s tucked into every nook and cranny. We urge those who live and work in the area to come join our effort.” An initial strategy meeting is planned for early May.

Contact Mary Ann Pastene at mpastene@comcast.net to join the effort.

Graffiti – An Epidemic Humiliating our Neighborhood

A quick stroll down NW 23rd shows only part of the graffiti problem plaguing our neighborhood – large spray painted ‘tags’ on utility fixtures, pole litter so thick it is peeling under its own weight, and so on. Tucked into every nook and cranny is some kind of ‘tag’ or sticker. Wander onto residential streets and you will see miniature tags on poles and stickers on the back of street signs. Graffiti can be found on public property, on public right-of-ways, and on private property. The Safety and Livability Committee is gathering resources and forming a task force to address the neighborhood-wide problem on all levels. An initial strategy meeting is planned for early May. If you would like to get involved, contact Mary Ann Pastene, mpastene@comcast.net.
